Luego de finalizar su Residencia en Cirugía General en Guatemala, el Dr. Rodrigo González Toledo completó un entrenamiento de dos años en Cirugía Avanzada Gastrointestinal y Hepato-Biliar en la Universidad de Louis Pasteur en Estrasburgo, Francia. Además de realizar cirugía de hígado y páncreas, recibe un entrenamiento en cirugía de reflujo esofágico y colon. Además, completa su entrenamiento en cirugía de reducción de peso con la banda gástrica ajustable.

Posteriormente, el Dr. Rodrigo González Toledo hizo un entrenamiento completo de dos años en Cirugía Laparoscópica Avanzada en la Universidad de Emory en Atlanta Georgia, Estados Unidos. Esta especialidad incluyó cirugía gastrointestinal por medio de cirugía laparoscópica, incluyendo cirugía de reflujo esofágico, cirugía del estómago, hígado, vesícula biliar, páncreas y colon. Es aquí donde inicia su entrenamiento en bypass gástrico y manga gástrica mediante cirugía laparoscópica.

Finalmente, el Dr. Rodrigo González Toledo completó un especialidad de un año en Cirugía Laparoscópica Gastrointestinal & Bariátrica en la Universidad del Sur de la Florida en Tampa, Florida, Estados Unidos, donde realizó sólo en ese año más de 400 operaciones de redución de peso incluyendo bypass gástrico, banda gástrica ajustable (LapBand), manga gástrica y conversión de operaciones fallidas o complicadas a bypass gástrico en Y de Roux. Además, inició su experiencia en cirugía metabólica (cirugía para el tratamiento de la diabetes).

El Dr. Rodrigo González es el único cirujano en Guatemala con un entrenamiento formal y completo en un Hospital Universitario en Estaods Unidos reconocido por el Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Guatemala.

Durante los últimos 15 años, el Dr. Rodrigo González Toledo ha completado cientos de operaciones de reducción de peso en 3 diferentes países (Francia, Estados Unidos y Guatemala). Estas operaciones incluyen banda gástrica ajustable, manga gástrica, bypass gástrico y conversión de cirugías a bypass gástrico o manga gástrica.
